Progressive Fight ~ Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi
When we won the election in 2006 we came in the first day, in the first 100 hours and we raised the minimum wage. It was the first time the minimum wage was raised in eleven years.
It wasn't kept down because small businesses said 'I can't afford", it was kept down for a purpose. It was kept down so people would not be able to live on that, they'd have to borrow, against home equity loans, against their mortgages, they'd have to live on credit cards.
Why is the opposition against raising the minimum wage: to force a contrived dependence on private credit for millions, tens of millions of working people in our country.

Undermining Americans' belief in their own institutions of self-government remains a prime GOP electoral strategy -Link
Although Perry wasn't born into wealth, he might as well have been, given the ease with which he became accustomed to a life of privilege, which is currently being funded by the taxpaying residents of Texas. Starve the Poor - GOP. Tim Murphy at Mother Jones looks into Rick Perry's promotion of prison privatization in Texas. I guess if Perry became president, we'd only have to know who Michael Toomey was working for to know what companies would benefit from new federal regulations or from legislation advanced by the White House. Michael Toomey, Perry's former chief of staff, is currently a lobbyist for Corrections Corporation of America, the largest private prison contractor in the country. Toomey was a lobbyist for Merck at the time Perry tried to require all Texas girls to get an HPV vaccination.
